The Cavern Resort and Spa

The Cavern – Celebrating 75 years of Many Happy Returns. In 1941 Ruth & Bill Carte went farming in the Northern Drakensberg. The veld was sour and the terrain too steep so cattle farming was abandoned but Ruth saw the potential of running a small Guest Farm. She borrowed money from an uncle, Charles Blyth, bought the property and together they began a journey in hospitality. The Cavern Drakensberg Resort evolved from its early beginnings to become a thriving family resort. Much development happened in the 70’s & 80’s by Ruth’s two sons, Peter & Anthony, with the help of their two very accomplished and organised wives. Today the 3rd generation are at the helm. The Cavern is a Full Board Resort, nestled at the end of the road, in a pristine valley, and provides wonderful family holidays in the great outdoors. Holidays are about people, being active or just taking time to relax and enjoy the surrounds. The Forest Retreat Spa provides a welcome space in the tranquillity of the indigenous Fern Forest to unwind while the Activities Calendar is packed with a range of things to do.
